Scaffolding, multitasking and house-improvement

Scaffolding, multitasking and house-improvement is my actual life. My father built and rabuilt 3 scaffolds in one morning (5 meters high) (how many inches is that?). Not virtual but touchable scaffolds. At the same time I saw how he built virtual scaffolds for me, for my children and even for my husband. Our family benefitted from his visit at multiple levels. I see where my youngst and oldest get there energy from. "I've got magical energy!" said the youngst. It is true. My oldest is recuperating from everything. She starts feeling better about herself. It's such a fine line between giving support and increasing dependent behavior. Art is doing the scaffolding, science is thinking how to and when.

checklist and DNA

If I decide I need to buy a house, the way to keep my head free of endless questions is a home buying checklist. Otherwise I will use much time thinking and not doing. I can endlessly think about all difficulties that could happen. I guess that's why DNA is so practical. It is the cell's to do list, a sequential string of amino acids that are reproduced in the right order one by one. It cannot go wrong.

publishing silence

I still did not hear from the publisher. It is a good sign according to a published writer that I trust. It has been months, and it has been a little less since I have read my book. I ought to make a start to write the other book. The truth is that most of the writing proceeds in my head in thinking. Maybe it is not me who thinks. Maybe I get these thoughts out of the collective unconscious or from forgotten reading or from inspiration. We cannot say anything about thinking by studying the machine that translates thought in words. Can we?

sheep story of thinking

how a sheep decided to jump over a ditch
I once saw a sheep that was at the wrong side of a fence. I stopped and thought how I could help it get to the other side. While I was thinking, the sheep seemed to realize I was a threat and suddenly panicked and jumped over the ditch all hooves in the air spread in four directions thus getting at the other side of the fence. I was surprised. It seemed this sheep thought before it panicked, and then decided to act upon it. The thinking process took quite some time.
Was this sheep thinking? Did it decide I was a threat? Did it then decide she should act upon her fear? This all seemed to be the case.

true and false in teaching

It is paradoxical that a teacher who uses lies in his lesson might actually teach best thinking about true and false. Read an inspiring essay of Pjammer about his teacher and his style of teaching critical thinking by experience. I actually use this method with my two year old. I say some statement that cannot be true and then say: "That cannot be true, can it?". I then enjoy the pensive expression on the little face.

wednesday, schools out.

This is my first post. Hello, I'm a mother and the weather is very good here in the North of the Netherlands. The hottest november in 300 years. We just had voting day last week and I wasn't happy about the polarisation that took place.
I'm also a writer about a psychological subject: thinking. I just finished writing the manuscript and I already have a problem. Someone wants my advice on my subject: conceptual thinking. It's about her child that has problems at school. The story sounds like one on underachieving. But there is also another angle to it.
Why isn't my book published yet? I have people who want to buy it... I have a publisher reading the manuscript in Belgium, and one form filled in at a New York agency. My sister was an au-pair for a year at New York. But as I understand it, it is important to have a platform, this is a word that I find an example of a fuzzy concept.

My speciality is how to help the development of children. Learning problems related to high intelligence.
Feel free to ask questions. The subject of my book is typically also interesting for adults. E.g my brother in law was interested and he works in hightech design.
But in the mean time I'll be a rolemodel for Europeans who prefer to publish non-fiction in American English.
